The downstream pressure will be sensed by the internal pressure sensor and applied to the lower surface of the valve diaphragm. When the downstream pressure reaches or exceeds the set pressure, the valve plug will push against the valve core and block the flow of fluid through the pressure regulator. When the downstream flow demand increases, the downstream pressure will slightly decrease, causing the spring to extend, the valve stem to move downward, and the valve plug to separate from the valve core, allowing the fluid to pass through the pressure reducing valve.
